Times are changing and emerging markets are in a state of rapid growth, in particular the emerging markets in the East such as China, India and Saudi Arabia. The expansion of these markets has lead to a surge in the amount of opportunities for contractors and freelancers. So it’s no wonder that more and more of them are opting to work in these regions.

There has been a massive 234 per cent increase in the number of UK based freelancers and micro businesses looking to emerging markets in the East, according to ‘PeoplePerHour’.

The number of short-term projects carried out for employers based in East Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, India and Pakistan, has more than doubled in the past 12 months.

It has become quite commonplace for people to go over to Dubai for a lucrative contract but now it seems there are other opportunities out there.

It’s well known that numerous UK based businesses outsource many of their business support teams to countries like India. With call centers and IT support being the main areas.

Now these countries that are generally utilized for their cheap workforce are experiencing a booming start up and small business sector. These companies are in a great position to expand quickly as they have funding flooding in and teams of support staff on their doorstep. They are also greatly supported by their governments as many offer a 10 year tax holiday for new start-up businesses.

What they need is an experienced contractor who is able to bring their knowledge of design, business support, or copywriting, and apply it to these rapidly growing businesses.

As these markets continue to expand it seems likely that we will see this trend continue and more contractors will be looking to these countries for new opportunities.
