The Spring Budget 2016 confirmed there would be restrictions for contractors who claim travel, subsistence and accommodation expenses, starting 6 April. Cloud9 Umbrella offers compliant PAYE payroll services for all temporary workers who work under ‘supervision, direction or control.’
If you fall under SDC, you are unable to claim business expenses as tax relief when working through an intermediary (such as an umbrella company). Are you subject to SDC? Our SDC Flowchart will help you identify your status and is available here.
The Clould9 Umbrella team are offering all contractors and freelancers a FREE consultation with one of our industry experts. We will carefully assess your personal working circumstances and ensure you are using the most appropriate umbrella model. Determining whether you are subject to SDC is not always straightforward. Please do not hesitate to get in contact for assistance.
Our most popular model is the “Cloud9 Umbrella Model” – designed for all contractors, whether you’re new to contracting or do not want the administrative hassle of running their own limited company. For contractors who use this model but accrue business expenses to a temporary workplace, travel and subsistence can only be claimed via a P87 at the tax year end, or via self-assessment. Our Cloud9 online portal is available for storing receipts electronically and our Contractor PA’s can offer assistance when required.
If you do not fall under SDC or you are a ‘mobile worker’, you may be eligible to claim your business mileage when travelling to and from temporary worksites through the Cloud9 Mileage Model. This no longer includes home to workplace commuting so take a look at the ‘Are you a mobile worker’ page to find out more information here.
